I first had a version of this salad at a friend's dinner party. A simple refreshing salad of sliced sweet Valencia oranges dressed with honey and seasoned with flaky sea salt. Now, this dish has become one of my favorites! Especially in the winter months, when it brings a little sunshine to the table.


All of the flavors shine and complement each other in this recipe. It is a perfect example of contrasting or opposite flavor profiles that perfectly compliment and heighten each other. I hope you try it and see why I love it.

The Recipe…


Peel and slice oranges making sure to remove all the white under the zest. Try to follow the round outside of orange to keep the round shape.


Arrange oranges on a plate overlapping the slices. Drizzle oranges with honey then sprinkle pistachios on top. Crush maldon salt in your hand and sprinkle on top. Let this marinate for 20 minutes before serving.

Recipe Tips:

  • Use good honey and large flake salt. This is a simple dish, but the devil is in the details. You want to use the best ingredients for this dish.
  • You want to use valencia or navel oranges. You want a nice juicy orange. I wouldn’t recommend using clementines, they’re too much work for this dish.
  • If you want to change this dish up, you can use blood oranges or add some grapefruit.

Make Ahead:

  • Peel your oranges the day before.
  • Everything else should be done the day of. I suggest plating this dish and then covering it with plastic wrap. Once guests arrive, unwrap and serve.
  • You don’t want to marinate for more than 20 minutes.

Storing tips:

  • Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days
