Plum Brandy

Sweet and spiced plum liquor that is sipped slowly or added to cocktails.

“I was first introduced to plum brandy by one of my best friends, who is from Serbia. We were having dinner at her house and her husband set it on the table and poured it for everyone. It was sweet and strong and the perfect ending to a lovely dinner.

I was then told that he had brought it back from Serbia and that it was made by his mother. She makes a batch every year and it just gets better with age. This made me determined to make my own. If you are looking to make something that will impress your guests at the end of the meal, this will do it. “ - Tara

What ingredients do you need for plum brandy?

  • Fresh Plums
  • Vodka or Moonshine
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon Stick
  • Whole Star Anise

Plum Brandy

The Recipe

Quarter plums, remove pits, and place in a glass container that is large enough to hold the gallon of alcohol. Add alcohol, sugar, cinnamon, and star anise.

Place the container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks to marinate. Mixture will become a lovely fuchsia color. Remove plums and enjoy!

Recipe Tips:

  • You can use any stone fruit (peaches, plums, nectarines, mangoes, apricots, cherries) or even walnuts.
  • You’re getting the pectin from the peel and the colors from the peel. So you wouldn't necessarily want to use berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries) for this recipe.

Make Ahead:

  • Plum brandy should be made 3-4 weeks in advance. The plums marinate for two weeks and then you want an additional week or two to let the flavors melt.

Storing tips:

  • Sore in glass bottles away from direct sunlight.
