Mint Iced Tea

Refreshing crisp brewed and iced mint tea with a hint of sweetness.

“Growing up with a mother from the south, we always had real brewed Iced tea in the refrigerator at all times. It was what we had for dinner and when we drank when we ran in from play time. I think I just assumed that everyone made it fresh. The trick I have learned is to not let the tea bags steep too long, which makes it bitter and to add the sugar to the hot water to let it dissolve completely. You can make sweet tea or just a little bit of sweetness. It is totally up to you.” - Tara

What ingredients do you need for summer mint iced tea?

  • Black Tea Bags
  • Sugar
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Water
  • Lemon and Fresh Mint,  Garnish

The Recipe

Bring water to boil and pour over tea bags and mint leaves in a heat resistant 1 gallon pitcher. Let the tea bags steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and mint using a set of tongs.

Add the sugar and stir until melted into tea. Fill the pitcher to the top with Ice and place in the refrigerator. Garnish with lemon and fresh mint.

Recipe Tips:

  • It is very important to not let the tea bags sit for too long. This will make a bitter tea.
  • Sometimes I like to mix it up by including other flavors of tea such as raspberry or ginger tea. You can add maybe 1 or 2 flavored teas to 3 black teas for a light refreshing mix.

Make Ahead
  • Make sure to make your tea the day before so it is cold if you're having guests.

Storing tips
  • Store the tea in a glass pitcher in the refrigerator.
