Chocolate Bark

Creamy festive chocolate bark covered with nuts, sprinkles, and dried fruits.

Chocolate bark is actually a sheet of melted chocolate that is topped with your choice of fun ingredients such as nuts,  sprinkles or dried fruits. They are then broken into jagged pieces of all sizes that in theory resemble bark. It can make a great holiday gift that you can customize with lively colors and taste.  There are so many fun combinations. I like to package them in fun tins or bags that I collect during the year and give teachers or anyone who has brightened my day.

Chocolate Bark

The Recipe

Place chocolate in a double boiler and melt slowly. Make sure the bowl is clean and there is no leftover oil or grease in the bowl. When chocolate is melted, pour onto a lined sheet pan. I like to use a silpat non-stick mat. Sprinkle with colored sugar and fancy sprinkles chopped nuts. Let sit for 2-3 hours or place in the refrigerator to speed up the hardening process. Break into pieces and enjoy.

Recipe Tips:

  • Chocolate bars can be covered in pretty much anything that goes with chocolate. Dried fruits such as raspberries or blueberries are some of my favorite additions. I also like to add granola or nuts to give a crunch depending on what I have left over from other projects.
  • This is a great gift idea for the holidays that you can make way ahead of time for people you want to give a little something to.
  • It is important to use real chocolate and not almond bark. This is because almond bark is not chocolate, it is made with vegetable fats instead of cocoa so it will not taste the same.
Make Ahead:
  • Chocolate bars can be made and stored in a dry airtight container of sweets depending on what you put on top.

Storing tips:
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 weeks.
