Brandy Cherries

Sweet and sour boozy cherries soaked in a brandy syrup perfect for your dessert or cocktail.

One of my favorite times of year is when the fresh cherries from Michigan come in July. All of a sudden at the grocery store cherries are everywhere and cheap! I usually buy tons of them, remove the pits then freeze some, bake some and save some for later. Whether you choose sweet or tart cherries they both come out amazing and can be saved for the long winter to use in your Manhattan cocktail or in any number of desserts.

What ingredients do you need for brandy cherries?

  • Fresh Cherries
  • Brandy
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Vanilla

The Recipe

Combine sugar and water and bring to a simmer in a large pot. Add cherries and let simmer for 5 minutes or until heated through and a little soft.

Remove from heat and add the brandy and vanilla. Remove from heat and strain cherries out. Fill glass jars with cherries and then pour liquid until cherries are covered. Store in the refrigerator.

Recipe Tips:

  • After you eat all the cherries, don't throw away the liquid. Combine with Coca-Cola for a fun brandy cherry Coke.
Make Ahead:
  • The longer the cherries sit in the brandy, the better they will be so make them ahead at least one week if you are prepping for a party.
Storing tips:
  • Store brandy cherries in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.
