Steel Cut Oats With Brown Sugar and Berries

Steel cut or Irish oatmeal, soaked overnight in milk with the added sweetness of brown sugar and fresh berries.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups steel cut oats
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • Pinch sea salt

Instructions

  1. Place oats, vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, and milk in a glass container and let soak overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In the morning place oats in a small sauce pot and bring to a simmer for about 10 minutes. You may need to add more milk or water. When cooked through, remove from heat. Taste and add sea salt and more brown sugar if you want it sweeter.
  3. Layer berries and oats in a bowl or parfait glass and enjoy.
